As a yoga teacher, I often witness unexpected phrases fall out of my mouth while narrating a class; some prove brilliant and others more faux pas… Yesterday I said something that will stick. It fell, more or less, like this: 

 

From Victim to Survivor

On a hot June night in 1988, a girlfriend and I snuck out of my house to meet a boy she liked who was four years older than us. I didn’t know him well other than his name. We slept downstairs in my house and around midnight, after we knew that everyone in the house was asleep, we spent an hour in front of the mirror fluffing our bangs with Aqua Net hairspray and headed out into the night. I’ll never forget what I wore; a pair of blue sweat paints and a gray Yale sweatshirt. A neighborhood friend drove us to his house.
