What's Your Fantasy?

For the last couple of months, all I’ve been hearing is “minimalistic is in”. Yawn. While it’s nice to have clothes that are useful and utilitarian, sometimes you just need to have a little fun with your clothes.

I’ve always viewed clothes as an expression of oneself. What you wore mattered when you nailed that job interview, when you attended a friend’s wedding, and even what you chose to debut at your high school prom. Clothes do the talking for what you hope to convey: powerful business woman or prom queen. Sometimes it feels like you’re dressing up for a part for every occasion in life. And that’s perfectly fine! There is no better way to creatively express yourself than through your clothing.

As a result, I’m saddened by the idea of only wearing neutrals for the next season of fashion. After watching some re-runs of “Sex and the City,” I realize how much fun stylist Patricia Field had on Carrie Bradshaw. While Carrie may have worn some crazy fashion don'ts, more often than not we really see the unique creations that clothing can do for a gal. While I’m all for the clean lines and useful neutral colors that you can wear for the rest of your life, it’s nice to play and live in a fantasy land where your clothes can transform you into a different character.

Right now I’m crazy about Anthropologie’s latest line of Fantasy Knits. With a twist on an original tank top, decked in romantic pastels and florals, they are the perfect casual shirt to wear underneath a cardigan or loosely above a breezy skirt. So let your clothes take you on a magical journey. After all, every woman has a fantasy. What’s yours?
